Description: | This course will introduce students to the art of theatrical lighting design. Students will come to understand the basics of contemporary lighting technology, learn the history of theatrical lighting, and get hands-on experience by creating and executing a lighting design for a mainstage production. From the use of color theory and the psychological effects of light to angle theories and drafting, the process of creating lighting environments for theatre, music, and dance performances has applications far beyond the stage; lighting design is a critical element in film and digital media production as well as interior design and architecture. This course is appropriate for first-year students. |
